New Jersey senate president Steve Sweeney wants to ban replacement refs in pro sports in New Jersey

As the NFL replacement referee fiasco continues to be the hot topic in sports, a New Jersey senator is looking to ban replacement referees altogether.

Steve Sweeney is the New Jersey senate president proposing a bill that no replacement referee will ever be used in any pro sports in his state:
Democrat Steve Sweeney, who's been a longtime official in an ironworkers union, says the NFL's replacement referees have "made a mockery of the sport" and increased the potential for injuries.

“We wouldn’t allow a factory or construction site to operate without fully trained supervisors on hand to ensure the safety of employees. Why should we do anything differently when the job site is a playing field?” Sweeney said
He also says substitute refs lower the quality of play and devalue fans' tickets.

A spokesman for Sweeney says the bill will be introduced no earlier than next week.
By the way, Sweeney is a Packers fan....
